We welcome you to our truly Northwoods getaway! “Lake of the Woods” is a 35 acre, 35-foot deep, clear lake in which you can swim off of the pontoon boat or, if you choose, you can fish right off of the dock. If you prefer to cruise the lake, you may use our complimentary electric powered 18 foot pontoon boat. Local ordinances restrict gas-powered watercraft on this quiet lake. This quiet lake allows the loons to call each other and the eagles to soar overhead. If you so choose, you may rent our 24-foot pontoon boat with a 60 HP motor that will accommodate 15 people. The boat is docked on a nearby lot on 1800-acre Red Cedar Lake. This private lot has an inviting, park-like setting. If you are a land-lover, you may enjoy sitting by the fire and watching the bald eagle perching on one of the branches on our property. Birds and deer have also signed our “Visitor’s Book”. We are located just three miles west of Birchwood, the "Bluegill Capital Of Wisconsin," in Barron County. The chalet is situated on a quiet,dead-end road, where walking, ATV and snowmobile trails, including the state owned Tuscobia trail, and Tagalong Golf Course await your visit. The area lakes include the following fish species: Northern Pike, Walleye, Bass, Perch, Crappies and Bluegill. Our chalet, which includes a three-car garage with separate openers is five years old and was built as a private, non-smoking, residence on Lake of the Woods. This 2400 square foot home comfortably accommodates 8 guests. A kitchenette in the walkout area offers extra cooking options. A back yard fire pit, with complimentary fire wood, is a great “s’ mores” starter.

It was the early 1900's and Fred Thomas was living the life that young boys dream of. He was playing professional baseball. Fred was batting at pitches thrown by Walter Johnson and hoping his line drives would get by the glove of Ty Cobb. His teammates were the likes of Everett Scott, Harry Hooper and Babe Ruth. Fred Thomas was playing third base with the Boston Red Sox. The highlight of his career was in 1918, when he helped Boston win the World Series against the Chicago Cubs. When Fred retired from Baseball in 1924, he knew where he was headed. He, his wife, and small sons were off to the wilderness of northern Wisconsin to build their dream -- a resort on Big Lake Chetac. From a primitive beginning with no roads, electricity or running water, Fred and his wife, Connie, built a modern-day resort. Fred and Connie were determined to offer the best and the slogan "Perpetually New" has stood as a reminder to that commitment. The Thomas family continues the management in the Fred Thomas tradition of "Perpetually New". This concept of continually upgrading the resort's facilities has ensured beautiful and immaculate accommodations that guests come back to enjoy year after year.
